Catholic United Financial is holding an election for the Association’s Board of Directors. There are four candidates running for three Director positions. Ballots will be accepted until midnight on August 21, 2023.

Jason Adkins has been a member of Catholic United Financial for 20 years. He has served the Catholic Bishops of Minnesota for over 12 years as Executive Director and General Counsel of the Minnesota Catholic Conference, the public policy voice of the Catholic Church. A licensed attorney, Adkins has significant corporate governance experience, especially with mission-based and religious nonprofits, and his leadership roles include service as Board Treasurer for three organizations. Adkins has devoted much of his community involvement to educational institutions and has also served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Minnesota Law School, the University of St. Thomas School of Law, and the St. Paul Seminary. Jason is a Cistercian (Benedictine) Oblate and he and his wife Annamarie live in St. Paul, Minn., with their four children.
Jean Hart (incumbent) has been a member of Catholic United Financial for more than 40 years and is a life-long member of St. Boniface Church in Cold Spring, Minn., where she has been actively involved in fundraising and leadership positions. She is a product of St. Boniface Catholic Grade School and graduated from St. Catherine University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration/Accounting. As a Certified Public Accountant Hart has nine years of work experience in public accounting, nine years in private accounting as an accounting/tax manager, and 22 years in banking as a commercial loan analyst/underwriter. She retired from her full-time banking job in 2020 and now works full time during tax season for a local tax/accounting/financial firm where she still puts her CPA license to good use. Through the years, Hart has used her expertise to serve as audit/accounting chair for several fundraising campaigns, including the United Way of Central Minnesota and the Cold Spring Area Relay for Life, she also serves on the Catholic United Financial Audit Committee as well as the Catholic United Financial Foundation Audit Committee. Jean resides in Cold Spring with her husband, Gary. They have three adult children and two grandchildren.
Tim Mathern has been a member of Catholic United Financial since 2016. His has obtained Master’s degrees in several fields, including a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University’s School of Government. He has been employed by a Catholic social service agency for 25 years, served as a parish administrator for six years, and at a psychiatric hospital for 16 years. Mathern has served on many boards including a food cooperative, an indigenous association, and a Catholic healthcare system in which he held all executive committee positions. In addition, he has served on the North Dakota State Legislature as a State Senator since 1986. Tim and his wife, Lorene, live in Fargo, N.D. and belong to Nativity Catholic Church. They have been married for 50 years and have four children and seven grandchildren. In his free time, Tim enjoys woodworking and spending time at the cabin he built himself in northern Minnesota.
Marty Seifert (incumbent) was born in Springfield, Minn. Raised on a small family farm, he attended grade school at St. Michael’s Catholic School in Morgan, Minn., and was active in his Catholic United Council. Assisted in part from a Catholic United Scholarship, he attended Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn., and received a degree in political science as well as a 7-12 teaching license. As Chairman of the State Government Finance Committee, he assembled, reviewed, and oversaw a budget of over $700 million, including legislative and elected Executive Branch departments. After leaving elected office in 2010, Seifert became Executive Director of the Avera Marshall Foundation, raising millions of dollars for a new cancer treatment facility for the only Catholic hospital in the Diocese of New Ulm. The Seifert family has been very active in the Catholic church. Marty and his wife, Traci, have been an active couple at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall and have two children.
